Being the heart and capital of Georgia, Atlanta was established in 1837. Not only is it a major city that traffic flows from, both around the country and world, but it hosts the Center for Disease Control, which is constantly seeking out new ways to cure old and new diseases. 13 of the top Fortune 500 companies have their headquarters in Atlanta as well. Due to Atlanta’s history with the Civil War and Human Rights Movements, many people view this city as one that has great capacity to care about its people and offer a great vacation to its guests.

If one is looking for fun things to do in Atlanta, the Georgia Aquarium should be on the top of the list. Not only does the aquarium offer a variety of shows that a guest can book but the tickets can be bought as part of the traveler’s vacation package when they book the hotel. This also helps discount the prices of the hotel about 25 to 30 dollars. There are many things to do and several different types of animals to see from the Beluga Whales to the Sea Otters to the Planet Shark exhibit. One can even plan a sleepover inside the aquarium, if one wishes.

For the adventure seeker, Atlanta Six Flags offers roller coasters and a water park within a few miles of each other. If the guest is planning to go to the park for more than one day, buying the season pass is the best way to get more out of one’s budget. If one plans to visit the park for one day only, buying the single day tickets is the way to go. There are also meal tickets that can be bought for less than two meals at a fast food place. More information about the parks can be found online at the Six Flags web site.

A trip to Atlanta would not be complete until one visited The King Center. This site is dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King and all that he stood for. His wife, Mrs. Coretta Scott King began the center in 1968 and it offers everything one would wish to know about Dr. King and his cause. It is also Dr. King’s final resting place. While at the center, visitors may purchase items and the money will be contributed to programs that the center supports while continuing to teach Dr. King’s philosophies.

When deciding where to eat in Atlanta, the sky is the limit. For the traveler on a budget, check out local “mom and pop” restaurants or ask the local people where to find a great meal for a low price. If price is not a problem, grab a phone book and pick a place.
